The SPS Office of Academic and Faculty Affairs serves as a resource to faculty and staff, ensures compliance with policies as they pertain to academic programs, and supports the school's academic community.
Mission
The Office of Academic and Faculty Affairs (OAFA) cultivates communities of inquiry and practice at the School of Professional Studies (SPS) by partnering with SPS faculty and the Dean’s Leadership Team to promote academic, teaching, and faculty excellence at SPS. In consultation with the NYU provost’s office and the SPS Dean, OAFA communicates and monitors NYU and SPS academic and faculty policies.
OAFA oversees the appointment, reappointment, and promotion process for full-time faculty; manages the program approval and revision process for all credit-bearing units at SPS; convenes the Academic Directors Council and Academic Communities of Practice Coordinators; administers the Dean’s Research Grant; and processes faculty requests from overload teaching compensation to course creation MOUs. OAFA schedules all SPS-wide full-time and adjunct faculty meetings and retreats and oversees the Center for Academic Excellence and Support.
Message from the Vice Dean of Faculty
Karen C. Krahulik, PhD
Vice Dean of Faculty at SPS
Welcome to the Office of Academic and Faculty Affairs (OAFA). From teaching for the first time to designing an entirely new online or on-site degree, consult with us to brainstorm, create, and deliver educational and pedagogical programs of the highest caliber. OAFA is fortunate in having a bird’s-eye-view of the entire SPS curriculum. We are constantly learning from faculty in each division in order to improve proposals, processes, and policies for faculty across all divisions. We do our best work collaboratively and collectively, and we look forward to hearing from you soon.
In the meantime, please peruse our new website. We have created it with faculty in mind. Here you will find resources and tools to help you accomplish your goals quickly and efficiently. The programs we offer our students are works in progress, as we are striving always to deliver relevant and timely academic and industry expertise. So, too, our website is in progress. We hope to improve it based on your comments and suggestions. Contact us via email (sps.facultyaffairs@nyu.edu) with recommendations.

Academic Affairs
Degree program development and revisions, assessment, and compliance.
As the School steadily advances, our office serves to cultivate and support the academic growth and development of the NYU and SPS communities. Whether creating a new program, modifying an existing assessment plan, or updating currricula, the OAFA team is here to assist.
Policy and Procedure
At times navigating policies and procedures can be perplexing. Our team focuses on providing our faculty and staff with the resources and clarity needed to stay in compliance with the legal and ethical principles set forth by the School, University, and other regulatory entities.
Communication
A team that communicates is a team that thrives. To support innovation, the OAFA team strives to remain in regular communication with our faculty and staff. Through multiple avenues, we aim to deliver essential information and updates as we all work towards a common goal - supporting our students.
