Overview

The MS in Real Estate Development (MSRED) offered by the Schack Institute of Real Estate provides students with the knowledge and tools necessary to succeed in the dynamic industry of real estate development. The core development courses provide a strong foundation and understanding of the development process; finance of development projects; legal, land use and regulatory frameworks; design and construction; and market analysis and technology. The program provide NYU SPS students with flexibility. The degree can be completed part-time, full-time, or in an accelerated full-time format in 13 months or more. On-site and hybrid study options available.

The MS in Real Estate Development program has three concentrations with specialized tier courses. These concentrations are:

  1. The business of development, which includes entrepreneurship and public private partnerships.

  2. Sustainable development such as green buildings, and infrastructure and resilience.

  3. Global development, such as comparative international real estate development and advanced real estate development and investment practices.
     

Day at Schack

Day at Schack is an introduction and welcome event to the Schack Institute of Real Estate. This in-person event is specifically designed for prospective and admitted graduate students. Attendees will have the opportunity to sit in on a class and meet clinical faculty and other members of the Schack community, including current student leaders, adjunct faculty, and advisors.

Program Structure

Core Courses

The core curriculum is designed to provide you with a deep and broad foundation that supports concentration coursework and serves you throughout your career.

 

Elective Courses

Elective courses provide the opportunity for students to explore growing market niches such as affordable housing, international development finance, data analytics and economic development. Select a combination of courses with permission from the program director.

Concentrations

The program offers concentrations that allow you to tailor your curriculum and specialize in a particular field of the real estate industry.

 

Capstone

To complete their course of study, students are required to complete a capstone course to demonstrate their comprehension of all prior courses undertaken in the program.
